A brief history of the tour.
The Tour began in 1990. The Society of Animal Artists contacted me in 1988 to launch and manage tours of artworks selected from its Annual Exhibition to generate greater exposure for members of the SAA and greater opportunities for appreciation and education of the public.

How artists are selected to go on tour?
Approximately 45 flatworks and 15 3-D works are selected from each Annual Exhibition for the ART AND THE ANIMAL Tour. This quantity is typical for museum exhibitions. It represents approximately half the number of artworks in the Annual Exhibition.
Criteria for selection include 1.) Quality and 2.) Diversity:
1.) Quality in terms of composition and design, handling of media, etc.;
2.) Diversity in terms of animal types and species, geography, habitat, style, media, male/female artists, etc.

Is there a "mission" for the tour?
To create broad awareness and appreciation of the world's animals and the artistic possibilities that afford artists of all kinds; to recognize the best animal art being produced today; to honor the highest achievements of animal artists today.
