About Far and Near Horizons

How was Far and Near Horizons founded?

"Far and Near"was founded by landscape painter Linda Richichi who formed an artistic collective that promotes environmental awareness and fosters appreciation for landscape painting.

Why is Far and Near Horizons unique?

"Far and Near" is an international group of painters coming together to exhibit with the mission of acting as a bridge between nations as well as encouraging stewardship of the land.

Why is this awareness important?

With global warming affecting nearly every country, the tour acts not only as a visual dialogue between countries, but also creates awareness of the world’s natural beauty and the need to preserve it.

Are there sponsors for the Tour?

Yes, we have many fine corporate sponsors such as Golden Artist Colors, Jack Richeson & Co. Dick Blick Art Materials, Airfloat Systems and ArtFrames.

We welcome new sponsors.

How is the Tour organized?

The tour is artist-based. We, as artists, have come together with a common mission and are working together as a collective to promote the tour and its mission.

What Kind of artwork is in the Tour?

You’ll see landscapes, painted both in the studio and en plein air in a variety of media such as oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel.

What is plein air painting?

“En plein air” is a French expression that means “in the open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outside. Landscape painting is painted both en plein air and in the studio and always depicts scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers and forests. The sky is also usually included.

Can any artist apply?

An artist must be a member of either International Plein Air Painters or Landscape Artists International. The initial group was comprised of signature members from these two groups. General members will be able to be juried in during 2008.

Why is the Tour limited to 30 artists and not 50 or more?

Logistically, we felt 30 participants was a workable number for most gallery venues. Also, this facilitates the Tour’s ability to travel.

Where are the participants from?

Currently, the Tour is comprised of artists from Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic and the US.
