Plein Air Rockies 2014 – A Festival of Outdoor PaintingOn December 20, 2017 by admin
For over 13 years, the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park has produced a national plein air event in Colorado. Patrons and artists from across the globe are invited to attend the 2014 festival. The Northern Rockies and Rocky Mountain National Park are one of the most spectacular places on earth, and a breathtaking place to visit.
We invite all plein air artists to enter our “Call for Entries” to compete for the opportunity to paint and experience the beauty of the majestic Colorado Rockies.
From August 9 through 21, 2014, beauty and inspiration go hand-in-hand as artists arrive in the Colorado Rockies to paint on-location. Plein Air Rockies is a festival of outdoor painting which showcases unique works of art inspired by subjects like Rocky Mountain National Park, forests, river canyons, scenic highways, and/or people and places in Estes Park. This event has garnered national attention, and opening day is the place to be if you are a savvy collector of fine art. Plein Air Rockies also has numerous events geared for audiences of all ages.
Starting with the annual “Prelude Show” opening August 2 in the CAC Fine Art Gallery, patrons can enjoy a preview of works by the Plein Air Rockies participating artists while they are out painting in the field. Once the “paint out” portion of the festival ends on Thursday August 22, the exhibition and sale of the new works is held August 23 through October 26 at the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park Fine Art Gallery in Estes Park, CO. In addition, the 2014 festival includes many other events including, a nocturne paint out, a children’s paint out, miniature show, Scottish-Irish Festival Paint Out, Fall paint out event and workshop. Artists have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and awards amounting to $12,000 and one artist’s image will be selected for festival products including wine, coffee and tea labels. Artists also have the opportunity to show and sell their work in a premier gallery setting for an extended length of time over two of the most beautiful seasons in Estes Park.
“This festival always features many of the outstanding national artists placing Estes Park as a premier arts destination”, states Lynda Vogel, CAC executive director. “As with many of the fine arts events the CAC produces, our patrons anxiously await Opening Day. The Quick Draw and Auction should not be missed by those who have a passion for fine art. The glory and the majesty of Northern Colorado is forever captured on canvas, paper and board”. Come to paint, come to learn, come to share, and come to experience.
For first time artists it is an exhilarating experience. For others it is a chance to meet up with colleagues or to paint familiar vistas. The community of Estes Park is a proud host of this event, and all efforts are made to make each artist’s stay a rewarding one.
